At Red Carpet IT Services we think it is important that you get to know our team. This is why we created a new series of blogposts called ‘Meet the team on Monday’. In the coming weeks we’ll introduce you to one of our valued team members. This Monday we’ll introduce you to our Senior Tester Sergio.
Grab some coffee, relax and get to know one of our amazing testers!
1. Senior Tester… What exactly is your role?
I am currently working as an Agile Test Engineer/Stand In Scrum Master/Team Support in my current assignment. We work in a dynamic and hectic environment ensuring quality from a test perspective point of view and continuity for the daily business
2. What is your background?
I graduated for my bachelor’s years ago. After that worked briefly in the airline industry and eventually ended up in the IT world of (Agile) Test (Engineer). Since then I have been working in different business areas as Agile Tester/Stand In Scrum master/Team lead/Test Coordinator as most importantly, a just be there for you colleague…..
3. What activities give you the most energy?
I love helping people…as in all jobs there are different challenges at different levels. Sometimes these challenges seem almost impossible to deal with or solve. It is important to understand that it is OK if things don’t always go as desired or planned…that makes the challenge worthwhile to learn from. The greatest power in every team comes from the way we support and help each other. It is better to have a greater team spirit with dynamic energy going for it no matter what than a one man show…. At the end it is the people that make the difference in terms of deliverables as we as people in team perspective can go for that extra mile where everyone in the group can feel safe, supported and learn from each other returning growth and confidence in a positive way….There isn’t right or wrong we just learn every day….
4. Where do you see opportunities and challenges in this role?
The biggest opportunities sometimes go with inevitable challenges. From the modern tester these days a lot is expected. The expectation is that next to understanding the business, the requirements, the risks, time constraint deliverables, it is also expected that the tester should be capable of having some technical developer skills for automation as everything has to be delivered in a short time frame….. The things that you will always need to understand as a tester is how does the business work and what does the business want.
This being said …currently there is a huge demand for testers but what companies also need to realise is that not all functional testers are technically skilled and not all Automator’s are functionally skilled, this can create unnecessary stress for the tester in this high demanding world whereas the hybrid solution might bring the functional Tester and automator closer to that point where they need to be for their deliverables.
As they say a motivated Tester is a Happy Tester…. When a tester feels supported and gets help by his team and thus understands what he is doing at the end of the line this same tester will be of valuable asset for the team as this tester as no other understands how the business works and what are the best decisions to make when to cover a test functionally or automated.
5. What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to talk to people about life, learn from others, collect airplane models, read books, travel…basically enjoy life in a simple way.
